On May 15th and 16th, GRI Club Infra held the 2nd Annual Infra Latin America GRI 2017, gathering 160 leaders and executives from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Uruguay and the USA at Dream Downtown Hotel in New York. Issues such as the bottleneck and solutions to unlock investments in energy, social infrastructure, sanitation, wastes and transportation were discussed.
The event had four special participations: Joaquim Levy (The World Bank Group), Geraldo Alckmin (Governor of the state of Sao Paulo state, Brazil), Marc Chandler (Brown Brothers Harriman) and Pedro Taques (Governor of the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil).
Among the companies which took part in the meeting, some of the participants were ACCIONA, ADP Management, Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, AES Gener, AIMCo., Atlas Renewable Energy, Barclays, CCCC, CDPQ, CIFI, CKD IM, Credit Agricole, Cubico Sustainable Investment, Groupe Egis, Eletrobras, Equity International, Goldman Sachs, CCR, IFC, InfraRed, ISA Group, MIP EXI, MRS, OTPP, ROADIS, Sacyr, Moraes Velleda, MV Risk Modeling Solutions, TIAA-Cref, UBS, VINCI Concessions among others.
During the discussions, several topics were covered focused on risks to be solved in order to attract more investments to infrastructure in some Latin American countries. Political, legal and regulatory challenges were the main concerns of investors.
The presentation by Joaquim Levy, former Farm Minister and current Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of World Bank, emphasized the demand for climate-friendly infrastructure investments called Climate-Friendly Infrastructure Investments. Levy also pointed the tendency of investors to reduce the injection of capital in developed countries to the economies of emerging countries, where ROIs could be higher. Latin America is a prosperous region for such investments, where around US $ 250bn are expected in investments for infrastructure.
Following this trend and considering more than 10 years of investments in loss prevention and consulting for Risk Management and Infrastructure in Brazil, The MV group has started operations in Argentina in 2016. In the meanwhile, MV Risk Modeling Solutions is opening operations in Southern California this year and Mexico in 2018 to explore the opportunities in these regions and better serve our clients.
The conference was an excellent forum for discussions where our companies were further enabled to provide support and assistance to our clients, being at our client’s disposal to inform them about the main points discussed at the meeting. We are confirmed to participate in Infra Mexico - GRI 2017 that will take place in Mexico City in September.
